High security
In the world of Electric Data everything is a database. Often the content of such data is encrypted to protect the confidentiality of the information. Sometimes the data is so sensitive it is not even stored in an encrypted form but only as a digest or signature.
User data is one example. User passwords are hashed into digests of minimum 160 bit length and only the digest is stored on the server. If the hash function is strong enough, the user password is theoretically irrecoverable. Recent security enhancements to the Electric Data system include 256 bit password digests.
Other advanced security features are already in place including 2048 bit public key based envelope encryption. As computing platforms become more advanced in future generations these key lengths will be correspondingly increased. At the same time stronger security policy will be bimplemented by incorporating a
High reliability
The combination of Intel dual, quad-core xeon processor hardware and FreeBSD is rock solid. Mandatory access controls and user resource management ensure the integrity and uptime of all system and data resources.
Redundant systems start with the hot-standby router and ensure that no single point of failure exists. In addition to RAID 1 mirroring, the system performs regular backups to ensure data integrity over time. The Electric Data system also facilitates additional redundant mirrors on different individual storage nodes.
While all Electric Data storage nodes are compatible with redundant power, the 2U system may also be specified with redundant fans by sacrificing drive space. These nodes can be configured as 6000 GB nodes using RAID 6 arrays of 1500 GB disks.
Electric Data features
- Simple, easy to use data interface
- Automatic indexing and backup
- Data encryption for sensitive files
Electric Data has the power of the list processor.
The linked list has always been a key component of the database management system. Without it there is no way to implement efficient data organization. But even a doubly linked list suffers substantial defects in its lack of an index. Thus other data organization classes are required to create a fully indexed and efficient database.
Electric Data has the power of the storage network node.
The Electric Data storage node works with a 10 Gbit Ethernet fabric to facilitate fast data delivery even in the most demanding applications. The storage network bandwidth is ultimately limited by the internet connection. Each storage node has the capacity to drive four OC-192 circuits when fully loaded with real-time data.
Thus Electric Data storage leverages the next generation in data systems technology to ensure fast, unrestricted access to large amounts of data limited only by the network access bandwidth of the users.
